Small Charity Week Triage – Day 2: Engagement

Today’s jargon:

Engagement’.

Many organisations hear this word and immediately think about likes, comments and shares.

But engagement isn’t really about social media metrics.

It’s about evidence that somebody cares enough to take action.

That might be:

  • a volunteer enquiry
  • a donation
  • a referral
  • an email
  • a conversation
  • somebody sharing your work with someone else.

The problem is that small charities can end up spending a lot of energy chasing visibility without being clear about what success actually looks like.

Today’s triage recommendation

Stop obsessing over follower counts.

Decide what meaningful engagement looks like for your organisation.

A small number of the right actions is often worth far more than a large number of passive impressions.

Five-minute website check

Can people find your contact details in one click?

If someone wanted to get in touch right now, how easy would it be?

Sometimes the biggest improvements are also the simplest.

If you’d like another pair of eyes on it, share your website with me and I’ll suggest one thing I’d prioritise first.
